Non-Toxic Makeup With SPF 40
This natural and non-toxic foundation has a truly unique serum formula and beautiful medium coverage.
Effective & Natural SPF Makeup
Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint comes in a dropper and it’s thin, spreadable consistency allows for a feathery fingertip application.
Skin tint is buildable if you want more coverage, but always dries with super dewy finish. Powder is not necessary, but can be applied to mattify desired areas.
When first applied, it appears a shade or two lighter before settling into the true color. You might be a shade darker than you think. Check out Ilia’s detailed color guide here under “Let’s Find Your Shade.”
Ilia Skin Tint Is Non-Toxic
Plenty of makeup products make it into the clean beauty section yet still contain harmful ingredients. For example, foundations with SPF will use a form of chemical sunscreen like octinxate, oxybenzone, avobenzone, and others. Chemical sunscreens can generate free radicals, cause skin allergies, mimic hormones, and impact the endocrine system. Further, the FDA has concluded the only two ingredients determined to be safe and effective are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.[10]
Skin tint uses the safest available sunscreen ingredient, non-nano zinc oxide.
In addition to having a safe active sunscreen ingredient, the safety of inactive ingredients should be considered as well. Skin Tint is formulated without the following toxic ingredients often found in makeup with SPF:
Fragrance - mix of fragrance and chemicals associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system. Fragrances have been found to contain unnamed toxic ingredients like phthalates which are associated with developmental and reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption, and cancer.[1][2][3][4]
Parabens - antimicrobial preservatives that are immune and skin toxicants, mimic estrogen and disrupt the endocrine system, are toxic to the developmental and reproductive systems, interfere with gene expression, and are associated with cancer.[3]
Talc - can be contaminated with asbestiform fibers which are known carcinogens. There is no safe level of exposure to asbestos.[4][5]
PEGs (polyethylene glycols) - penetration enhancers that may be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide which are associated with reproductive, developmental, and endocrine effects, cancer, and DNA damage.[6]
Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) - preservative that shows organ system toxicity in animal studies, with some carcinogenic. Animal studies also show skin, eye and respiratory effects. Associated with skin sensitization in humans.[7][8]
Phenoxyethanol- skin, eye, or lung irritant. In 2008, the FDA warned consumers not to use Mommy’s Bliss Nipple cream because it contained phenoxyethanol which was harmful to infants. The statement indicated phenoxyethanol could “depress the central nervous system and may cause vomiting and diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration in infants.” Phenoxyethanol remains a controversial ingredient and even “green” beauty products continue to use it as a preservative.[9]
